Tobacco Road Tours – Enjoy one of our most popular tours!
The “Raleigh Haunted Footsteps Ghost tour” is a family friendly 1.5 mile walking tour designed for goblins (children 8 year & older please) seeking a unique and different downtown Raleigh experience. What is the difference between a ghost and spirit? Are they all scary? What exactly is an orb and why are they different colors? We will answer all your questions and more during this tour.
Many people think our ghost tours are just something to experience during the Halloween season like visiting a haunted house. Nothing could be further from the truth. The Raleigh Ghost Walk combines local ghost stories, folklore and local history as it takes you to four different Ghost & Paranormal sites. Stories from the late 1700’s through the 20th century will be explored with an entertaining twist. It’s entertaining and educational at the same time.

On the steps of the State Capitol Building, our guides will share the story of the Capitol Phantom. Legislators were not the only ones causing a stir in the building. Sightings and other paranormal activity have occurred on the Capitol grounds since the mid-1800s.
While walking to the next stops, guides point out significant architecture, historical facts and interesting tidbits. The White-Holman house is where the Peg-legged ghost has been heard walking up and down the back staircase. This house is a popular stop on this tour and you’ll learn who the ghost is thought to be and maybe even hear the step…click, step…click, step….click of the ghost walking on his peg-leg.
Highlighting Haywood Hall including the owner’s, John Haywood, contribution to Raleigh, we will walk to the Raleigh City Cemetery, the oldest cemetery in Raleigh, to hear stories of ghost past. You will get a chance to explore the cemetery and look for some of the historic figures we talked about on the tour as well as search for symbols on gravestones and learn their meaning.
We wrap up the tour with the gruesome experiences of centuries past at Moore’s Square, one of Raleigh’s two remaining green spaces/parks established in 1792. Moore Square is surrounded by a variety of hip bars, award-winning restaurants and an IMAX Theatre. Be sure to check out the Raleigh Acorn and the old City Market.
Since the beginning of recorded history, man has written of the afterlife and of those who have returned to walk the earth. North Carolina has a particularly rich history, and along with that history comes the deep-rooted folklore this goes hand-in-hand with historic places. This tour has very spooky and scary moments, so be ready!
Do you believe in ghosts and creatures of the night? Whether your answer is yes or no, almost everyone enjoys a ghost story or an inexplicable tale of the unusual. And, when that narrative has as its basis real people, real places and recorded events, it becomes more enjoyable because it hints at credibility and believability. We strive to make each tour a memorable experience.
“The adults enjoying Tobacco Road Tours services actually recommended this addition for families, and we listened,” said Brad Kennedy, Managing Partner of Tobacco Road Tours. “Everyone loves a good ghost story, especially in their own backyard.”
